Ogof Fytnnon Ddu (Cave of the Black Spring) used to be the longest cave in Wales until the Discovery of Ogof Draenen in 1994. It is still the deepest cave in Wales at 308 m from it's uppermost points to it's lowest part

The whole system has so many different styles of passage that it's a wonderful place to explore, and it's a good place to take beginner cavers as you can safely see some incredible formations on a "long" trip which may in fact have taken you never more than about 20 minutes from the entrance

The pictures in this gallery are take on one of the main trip routes through the cave (Saloubrious Passage), and in a less often visited part of the cave (Swamp Creek)

Mdelling for me in these pictures is Paul Kirkwood

The pictures are all taken with a Olympus E-500 E-series camera with a 14-42mm kit lens carried into the cave in a Pelicase which is waterproof and rugged. It has been padded with foam to absorb shocks

They are lit with a single FL-36 Flashgun directly connected to the camera via a spiral cable

The photographs were taken on a trip organised by the International Society for Spelaeological Art (ISSA) with assistance from other members of the team in holding flashguns and/or as models
