Ogof Craig y Ffynnon (Rock and fountain [or spring] cave in Welsh) is arguably one of the best caves in Wales.

It's entrance series starts with a series of incredibly decorated chambers with stunning arrays of straw stalactites hanging from the ceilings

The cave then get's quite a bit harder as you have to crawl, climb & crawl again to get through to Gasoline Alley and then into the simply sumptuous Hall of the Mountain Kings chamber where the large stalactites and flowstone formations high above are simply superb to admire

And along the way between these highlights there are plenty of other wonderful large and small cave formations to admire

It has to be said that many cavers dislike gated and led caves as cavers are by nature an adventurous lot, but the conservation in this system has been excellent and is an excellent example for anyone finding a new cave as most of the formations are still in the state that they were originally found.

The cave is about 8km in length in total according to the UK caves Database

Most of the pictures in this gallery are stalactites. There are two types, Straws and massive stalactites. These are described in the Cave Geology page

The pictures are all taken with a Olympus E-500 E-series camera with a 14-42mm kit lens carried into the cave in a Pelicase which is waterproof and rugged. It has been padded with foam to absorb shocks

They are lit with a single FL-36 Flashgun directly connected to the camera via a spiral cable

The photographs were taken on a trip organised by the International Society for Spelaeological Art (ISSA) with assistance from other members of the team in holding flashguns and/or as models
