Cracking California... |
California - Sunshine, Sea and Scenery, What a wonderful place
We visited in 2014, incredible scenery, fantastic walks and fascinating wildlife
Places included in this gallery are San Francisco, Tahoe, Yosemite, Lake Mono, Death Valley, Los Angelese (La Brea Page Museum), Sequoia and Kings National Parks, Morrow, Monterey and home
The US National Parks website has really excellent information on Yosemite, Death Valley, Sequoia and Kings and it's always up to date so take a look there if you are planning a visit
Water management (or lack thereof) is a major topic in california, with information in all the national parks about the risk of wildfires and campaigns from farmers all over the state asking form permission to extract more from the rivers and water table. There is no easy answer, except keep trying to do more with less. Lake Mono is both an incredible sight and a salutory lesson on the consequence of overextraction.
The Page museum website likewise has the latest information on this excellent small museum. if you are heading to Los Angelese we would strongly recommend a visit to this museum for educational and just enjoyment. Skip the Hollywood trail (we did) and see some real spectacular monsters!
Monterey Bay Aquarium was the last place we visited on our trip. It is also educational and spectacular and if you stay on a hotel on the coast you get serenaded by the Sea Lions in the evenings and woken by them in the morning.. its wonderful!
