Woodlands are magical places to take a walk

Many of the pictures in this gallery are taken in Wentwood firest, just north of Newport, South Wales. Others are taken in Dinas Powis, just west of Cardiff

The Wentwood pictures are "classic autumn colour" which is what happens when the leaves are starved as the tree shuts down it's "circulation" to them as the days become shorter and especially the nights become cooler

The Dinas Powis pictures are easily confused for the same, but they are in fact spring pictures taken just as fresh leaves are opening and before the chlorophyll gets going to capture the CO2 and turn it into the fuel that ends up being the wood of the tree.
